Pledges to Work Collaboratively to Make CT Safer, More Affordable

THOMPSON – Susanne Witkowski, elected member of the Thompson Board of Selectmen, is running to be the next Connecticut Senator from the 29th District.

“I love this state,” Witkowski said. “As your state senator, I will make sure your voice is heard in Hartford. I pledge to work with Democrats and Republicans to help bring about a more affordable, safer, and more taxpayer-friendly Connecticut.”

Witkowski, a Republican, is serving in her second term on the Board of Selectmen and previously served on the Thompson Board of Finance for six years. Witkowski also served on the Thompson Housing Authority Commission for four years, chairing it for three of those years.

“Volunteering and helping people is what I enjoy most,” Witkowski said. “I have been a longtime advocate for low-income seniors and families and I have been a champion for quality public education. At the State Capitol, I will be a strong voice for parents, for students and for our most vulnerable residents. As state senator, I am confident that I will be effective in passing policies which improve the quality of life for the residents of northeastern Connecticut. I look forward to meeting with – and listening to – voters from throughout our region in the weeks and months ahead. I have a fresh, positive message, and I believe that message will resonate with people from all political parties.”

A Thompson resident for 35 years, Witkowski has four children and two grandchildren. Her husband Bill has served on the Thompson Board of Education since 2002. She is the proud daughter of a World War II disabled U.S. Navy veteran.

Witkowski has worked closely with vulnerable seniors for many years, serving as a Certified Resident Service Coordinator for low-income elderly housing as well as a Case Manager/Elder Care advisor at a nonprofit social service agency.

Witkowski helped to start a grassroots movement in Thompson known as TPQE—Thompson Parents for Quality Education. The initiative was awarded the Connecticut Education Association’s “Salutes Award”, which recognizes individuals and organizations for their commitment to public education. Witkowski also organized a group in Thompson known as ARCHES, which empowers and educates parents of special needs students to become strong advocates for their children.

Witkowski earned an associate’s degree from Quinebaug Valley Community College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Charter Oak State College while working full-time and parenting her children.

The 29th District includes Brooklyn, Canterbury, Killingly, Mansfield, Putnam, Scotland, Thompson and Windham.
